A man who was trying to avenge his elderly neighbour violently assaulted his victim in their own home before knocking them off their bike in a van.

The injured victim was pursuing his attacker, Christopher Newcomb, who drove onto the pavement to run him down and continue the assault.

A courtroom this week heard how the trouble began when Newcomb called at the victim’s home around midday on Sunday September 27 last year.

Newcomb had taken the decision to take “the law into his own hands” to deal with a neighbours’ dispute that did not personally involve him.

Priya Bakshi, prosecuting, said the victim did not know the defendant, who arrived at his door and immediately punched him to the floor.
